Where is the school located?

St. Matthew Catholic School is located near downtown San Mateo at 910 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA 94402. See our detailed directions and map.

Does St. Matthew have an extended care program?

The CASA program is an extended care program offered at St. Matthews for students. The objective is to provide a "safe harbor" for children whose parents cannot pick them up at dismissal or who need to drop them off earlier than the normal time.  Our CASA hours are 7:00am -7:50am and at the end of the school day until 6:00pm. Our CASA room is located in Room C adjacent to our 2nd grade classrooms on the lower ramp building.

Does St. Matthew have a hot lunch program?

Yes; it is currently offered 5 days/week to students in grades K through 8. Please refer to the Choice Lunch website for details of the program.

Where can I get details about the uniform code at St. Matthew?

The uniform policy can be found on our website  and in our Parent Student Handbook. All uniform purchases are done through Lands’ End.  

What is the Friday Message Board?

The Friday Message Board is published every Friday via email.  This email contains a message from our Principal, communicates important information, and links to flyers and forms. All parents are expected to review the material as this is the main source of communication from the school and the Administration.

Are volunteer hours required?

St. Matthew children learn through our example: we are part of a greater educational, religious and social community. We demonstrate our commitment through our service to the school.  We have over 70 different volunteer groups and activities from which to choose.  Children love seeing and knowing that their parents and families are doing something special to support their school.  Please visit our volunteer information page for more info on service opportunities, requirements, and tips. There is no buy-out option for volunteer hours. Service hours to the school are mandatory. Each family is required to complete 40 hours per family per year, 20 hours for a single parent family.  You can now record your hours online or download a volunteer hours form to record hours.

What is Yard Duty?

Yard Duty is a mandatory commitment for parents that have children in ALL grades at St. Matthew's. Yard Duty is scheduled twice a year per family. You are required to sign in at the school office and receive a badge to be worn during your Yard Duty shift.  On the back of your badge you will be assigned a designated area of campus that you need to work while on Yard Duty. Please see Ms. Diaz if you have any questions.

What is Traffic Duty?

All parents are required to do six traffic duties.  You have the choice of doing the morning shift beginning at 7:30am or the afternoon shift which begins 20 minutes prior to the school dismissal time. You will wear an orange traffic vest and help the students and cars navigate the drop off and pick up activity. 

What are the student school hours?

The students attend school on Mondays from 8:00am-2:30pm and Tuesday-Friday from 8:00am-3:00pm
