Fifth Grade

The objective is to develop skills to take notes: reading carefully in context, outlining, taking notes for the readings and lectures. Students describe how a narrator's point of view influences how events are described. Students summarize a written text or informational text. Students interpret figurative language, including similes and metaphors. Students learn content specific words. 

Fifth grade students are solidifying their ability to know multiplication and division of whole numbers and understanding fractions. Students should be able to multiply multi-digit whole numbers. 

As students continue to engage in music making, they create a deeper knowledge of all elements. 

The students will learn what matter is made of, matter to organisms, earth systems and night sky. 

In the fifth grade students studied the history of America until 1850. This year the students will learn about the founding documents of the United States.
