Computer Curriculum
New Computer Lab is Open!
The new computer lab opened fall 2010. Scheduled computer classes are offered to grades K-4 every week taught by Mrs. Uliana. When the computer lab is not in use for regular classes, any teacher may use it for small class project work such as accelerated reader testing, research project time, online math drills etc.
The computer lab is also open to students in grades 5-8 after school on Tuesday and Thursday until 4:00pm. This teacher-proctored time allows the students to have access to laptops to work on electronic assignments outside of the classroom.
Grade K-4 Curriculum:
Grades 1-4 will have 2 hours of class time each week in the computer lab. (Kindergarten will have one hour.) Half the students will go to the lab each hour while the other half gets small-group instruction on other academic work with their homeroom teacher. This is similar to the library time structure where half the class goes to library for ½ hour while the other half is in the classroom working. This gives the ramp students 1.5 hours of small group instruction plus 1.5 hours of library/computer training each week.
Mrs. Uliana will work closely with the classroom teachers to integrate what is being taught in the classroom with what is being taught in the lab including writing, math, graphing and research.
- Kindergarten: intro to computer terms, icons and Kidpix software;
- Grades 1-2: using the web for research, dictionary and Kidpix with more advanced projects;
- Grades 3-4: Google for kids, KidPix, internet research, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software
Middle School Computer Curriculum
Mobile computer carts with approximately 50 laptops are available to grades 6-8 for in-class computer-based projects. Each teacher schedules time with the mobile pool for use with their class projects.
Mrs. Janet Uliana
Hi, my name is Mrs. Janet Uliana. I am the new librarian, technology administrator and computer instructor. I am married with three adult daughters, two of which are teaching (St. Matthew's and St. Raymond's). For the past sixteen years, I have worked for three schools in the Archdiocese of San Francisco. My job descriptions have included: teachers aide in grades K-3, substitute teaching, and school secretary. Although I enjoyed the path that the past sixteen years taken me, I am excited and happy to be back at St. Matthew's and working with the children both in the library and computer class. My life has truly gone full circle, as I am an alumni of this wonderful school.
