Athletics at St. Matthew
The St Matthew Athletics Department offers current 4th through 8th graders the opportunity to compete in Baseball, Volleyball, Basketball and Track & Field throughout the school year. Our 4th graders begin with a training program wherein teams are divided to ensure that no team is stronger than the other. Scores and records of the games are not kept and the emphasis is placed on creating a positive learning environment for all.
Beginning in the 5th grade, the game scores are kept and the participants are divided into teams, annually, based on an independent evaluation of their strengths in that particular sport.
Participation fees assist with offsetting the costs of renting facilities, league fees and equipment maintenance and replacement. In addition to the participation fee, a replacement fee will be charged if a uniform is not returned or damaged at the end of the school year.
