Parish Community Center

Faith in Action...Building for Our Future

The Parish Community Center will be a multi-dimensional facility that will provide the St. Matthew's family with a single site for social, educational, and athletic events.

The new center will be built just east of the parish and school offices, adjacent to El Camino Real. The current Kitchen will remain untouched; Ward Hall and the auditorium will be refurbished. The Center's many functions and facets will include:

Cost and Construction

The new Parish Community Center is projected to cost $6,000,000. To achieve this total, we envision utilizing $2,000,000 of our parish savings, borrowing $1,500,000 from the Archdiocese, and raising $2.5 million in this fund raising effort. Parishioners will be approached for financial commitments during October, November, and early December of 2006.

We hope to begin construction on the new Parish Community Center in the summer of 2007, with its expected completion approximately one year later.

Questions & Answers

Who will be asked to give?
All parishioners and friends of St. Matthew's will be asked to make a sacrificial gift to the campaign. We are striving for 100% participation from all members of the St. Matthew's parish family.

How much should I give? Will my gift be recognized?
Each of us has different financial resources and income. As a result, each parishioner is asked to consider an investment commensurate with his or her ability to give. Remember, this program is based on EQUAL SACRIFICES, NOT EQUAL GIFTS. All gifts, regardless of amount, will be accepted, appreciated and acknowledged. In addition, permanent recognition will be offered.

How has the decision to proceed been made?
The need to construct a new multi-purpose facility that would better provide for our parish family's social, spatial, and recreational needs was identified. Consequently, extensive internal study and analysis were undertaken, followed by a Feasibility Study in the Summer of 2005 that showed a capital campaign for the new facility could be conducted. After considerable subsequent discussion and research, the parish council, the finance council, and the school board all determined that St. Matthew's should go forth with plans to build a new multi-purpose facility, termed the Parish Community Center.

When will construction on the new Parish Community Center begin/when will it be completed?
Work will begin according to the campaign's success, as well as our ability to secure the requisite permits from the city and loans from the Archdiocese. We hope to begin construction on the new Parish Community Center next summer, with its expected completion approximately one year later.

What are the financial goals and timing of the campaign?
The new Parish Community Center is projected to cost $6,000,000. To achieve this total, we envision utilizing $2,000,000 of our parish savings, borrowing $1,500,000 from the Archdiocese, and raising $2.5 million in this fund raising effort. Parishioners will be approached for financial commitments during October, November, and early December.

Why a pledge rather than cash?
Few people can contribute, in large cash sums, the generous amounts needed to raise the necessary funds. In addition, token and "out of pocket" contributions could not produce this amount. A monthly or annual pledge is the easiest way to achieve greater participation and reach our goal. A pledge also provides the advantage of budgeting an investment over time.

Will I be reminded to make my pledge payments? How can payments be made?
Yes, you will receive reminders from the parish office based on the payment schedule you indicate on your pledge card. If you make a pledged gift, be certain to designate the frequency with which you would like to remit the payments - i.e., monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, annually, etc. In addition, you can make your payments via the Autodebit system if you would prefer.

What is the difference between our Capital Campaign contributions and weekly offerings?
"Faith in Action...Building for Our Future" will address our need to construct a new Parish Community Center. Our Offertory (weekly) needs, on the other hand, support ongoing parish operations. Each is essential, and they must be handled separately - your campaign pledge must be in addition to your regular support.

Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes; consult your tax advisor for specific information. Please make checks payable to St. Matthew's Church Capital Campaign.

Is the pledge legally binding?
No, it is not legally binding; it is only a statement of intention. Should circumstances arise which preclude one's ability to complete a pledge, let us know. Your pledge may be deferred and begun again later.
