St. Matthew Catholic School is so much more than classroom academics. Our kids are learning through our example, that we're part of a greater educational, religious and social community. Each year, we demonstrate our commitment to this idea through our service to the school.

We have over 70 different groups and activities that you can choose to help with. Kids love seeing and knowing that their parents and families are doing something special at school. Volunteer commitments for the 2011-12 school year

Time period to complete your hours: March 1, 2011 - February 29, 2012. Hours done in March and through the summer are applied to the 2011-12 school year.
New Families:
30 Volunteer Hours/ 15 Volunteer Hours (Single Parent)
Returning Families:
50 Volunteer Hours/25 Volunteer Hours (Single Parent)

There is no buy-out option for volunteer hours. Volunteer hours are not transferable and cannot be earned by purchasing goods. (Example: Baking cookies for class party, time required to purchase and bake cookies is valid for volunteer time, but not the cost of ingredients.) Similarly, attendance at church services, social or educational functions do not qualify for credit. But please count your hours if you organize, set-up, host/serve or clean up at functions.

Information sources for
upcoming events/committee work:

  • Parent Association Event Calendar
  • Monthly School Calendar
  • Website - Volunteer Area
  • Wednesday Envelope Bulletins

Recording of Volunteer Hours:

Submit your hours right away and keep your own records. Online entry is fastest. You can also submit them on hard copy forms that arrive in the Weds. Envelope or download the form from the website. The Scrip committee graciously tabulates volunteer hours and scrip credit for over 400 families. They send out an update for each family several times per year.

Tips for completing volunteer hours without stress:

  • Start early! Mark down dates of the events/commitments on your family calendar months before they start. Mark out the entire year!
  • Always work at the Carnival - you can acquire lots of hours in one weekend and get yourself off to a good start.
  • Plan to participate in several things every season (Fall, Holiday/Winter, Spring) so hours accumulate steadily. Remember that you must complete all hours by February 28, 2011.
  • Most importantly, if committee heads don't call you, CALL THEM. Their names are located in the Parent Association Event Calendar.
  • Keep track of your own hours. Submit them immediately.
