Uniform, Makeup and Grooming Policies 2008 -2009

The school uniform must be worn at all times beginning the first day of school, with the exception of the day on which Scouts, Brownies or Cheerleaders have their meeting or event. On all days the uniform should be clean, well pressed and mended. If there is reason for a student to be out of uniform, a note should be sent to the office giving the reason.

Used uniforms are available at the school for greatly discounted price several times a year via the Uniform Exchange.

Policies

There may be occasions when non-uniform dress is allowed. At each occasion the specifications regarding the appropriate dress will be announced.

All items of clothing, including jackets and coats, must be marked with the student's name.

Girls' Uniform
  • K - 4 White Peter Pan collar blouse, plaid jumper or navy blue twill pants, white polo shirt with logo, navy blue sweatshirt with school logo, navy blue cardigan (optional), navy twill shorts*
  • 5 - 6 Navy skirt or navy blue twill pants, white polo shirt with school logo, navy blue twill shorts*, navy blue sweatshirt with school logo
  • 7 & 8 Blue polo shirt with school logo (8th) or white polo shirt with school logo, khaki pants or skort*, (7th & 8th), navy sweatshirt with school logo (7th)
  • 8th grade only - special navy blue sweatshirt with school name on front and graduates' names printed on the back.
  • *Shorts and skorts may be worn 1st and 4th quarter only.
Boys' Uniform
  • K - 4 White polo shirt with school logo, navy blue twill slacks, navy blue twill shorts*, navy blue sweatshirt with school logo, navy blue cardigan (optional)

Uniform Accessories

Skirt or jumper length will reach from the waist to a point just above the knees (no more than 3 inches up from the kneecap).

Belts may be black, navy blue or brown

Socks for girls and boys are plain white. Socks must be above the anklebone.

Shoes for girls and boys must be all black or all white leather with rubber soles. No patent leather shoes or boots, high top shoes or above the ankle tennis shoes are allowed. Athletic shoes must be black or white with no logos or any adornments of any color. This uniform code will be strictly enforced.

Samples of appropriate shoes:

Navy, khaki, and P.E. shorts and skorts may be worn only during the first and fourth quarter of the school year.

During cold weather, white turtlenecks may be worn under the specified blouses or shirts. White or navy tights may be worn in lieu of socks. Blouses and shirts must always be worn tucked.

Girls may elect to wear shorts under their skirt if they do not show below the hemline.

On Physical Education Days, students are to wear tennis shoes, and the official P.E. T-shirt and shorts (1st and 4th quarter only) or sweat pants (1st-4th quarter). The T-shirt must be tucked in except for P.E. class.

Hair - Hairstyles should be conservative and not distracting. Boys' hair must be cut around the ears and above the polo shirt collar. Boys and girls may not bleach, dye, highlight or streak their hair.

Make-up - No make-up or finger nail polish may be worn.

Jewelry - One unobtrusive stud earring per ear is allowed. For safety purposes no hoops or dangling earrings or necklaces may be worn. Wrist watches and small religious crosses or medals on light chains may be worn.

  • No other body piercing is acceptable.
  • No bracelets or necklaces are allowed.
  • Boys may not wear earrings to school.

Guidelines for Non-uniform Days or Special Dress Days:

  • No frayed or torn clothing may be worn.
  • No baggy pants, sweat pants, athletic shorts, bike shorts, flannel or cotton boxer style shorts are to be worn to school. No over sized clothing is allowed.
  • Shorts must be walking short length.
  • No tank tops, spaghetti strap tops, midriffs or other shirts that are too short to tuck in a skirt or pants. That is, no tops that are revealing or provocative.
  • Tattoos are not allowed in stick-on or permanent form.
  • No T-shirts with inappropriate language/graphics.

Out-of-Uniform Slips

If student is not wearing the appropriate uniform, or not wearing the uniform in the appropriate manner, he or she will be given a verbal warning.

On offenses after the verbal warning:
  1. On his or her first offense, student receives an Out of Uniform slip that parents must sign and return the next day.
  2. On student's second offense, he or she receives an Out of Uniform Slip, and the loss of free dress on the next Non-uniform day.
  3. On student's third offense, the student will receive a Detention. Parents will be contacted by the school office and asked to come to school to correct the violation. Loss of free dress on next Non-uniform day will also result.

If the child continues to violate the uniform rules, the parents will be called in for a conference with the principal.
