Parent Traffic Patrol
Traffic safety at St. Matthew’s is a shared responsibility between the faculty and parents of the school. Each family is required to perform six traffic shifts per school year. Each shift counts as one volunteer hour. The shifts are tracked by the Administration and must be fulfilled each school year before re-registration can be finalized with the school.

What to do while on Traffic Patrol
Overall
Student safety requires active participation from all parents while on patrol. We ask that you pay attention to your patrol area and keep the interaction with other parents to a minimum. Please do not use your cell phone or text while you are performing your traffic shift. Traffic patrol is no place for young children. Please arrange for a sitter or have another parent watch your younger children while you are on patrol.

Missed Traffic Shift
Making up a missed shift is easy. You will be emailed the day of your missed shift. Follow the instructions on that email and make up your missed shift within one week. Simply sign-in on the day of your make up and write MAKE UP next to your name. If you do not sign in, we do not have any way of tracking your attendance and you will be marked as having missed your shift.
What to do if you can no longer make your shift
Any adult 18 years or older, who has a Shield the Vulnerable certificate on file with the school, can perform a traffic patrol shift. If you are not able to perform your assigned shift, you may ask another parent to stand in for you. They simply need to sign in under your name and you will get credit for fulfilling your shift. This shift counts as being fulfilled for the family that was originally assigned to the patrol. It does not count as a traffic shift for the family who filled in. An on-call list is available on an emergency only basis. It can be obtained from the front office.
