St. Matthew’s Parking Guidelines
Overview
All families are to drop off and pick up their students in the main schoolyard lot that is easily accessed via Notre Dame Ave.
- You can elect to drop off/pick up your children at the Middle School or Ramp drop off/pick up locations or you can park in the main lot and walk to your student’s class.
- Parking in the Front Lot or on Aragon Blvd. for AM drop off or PM pick up is not permitted by the Administration.
- No drop off, pick up or parking on Aragon Blvd., Capistrano, or Castillian
- This will be strictly enforced as school policy
- We encourage all parents to use the drop-off and pick-up lines to alleviate parking congestion
Front Lot Usage
- The front lot is to be used for short term parking that takes place after AM drop off or before PM pick up. This would include any business with the school that is under 15 minutes in duration. Examples include:
- picking up a sick child, dropping off necessary forms to the front office or dropping off after a doctor/dentist appt.
- Parking for business that is over 15 minutes should be done on El Camino or Notre Dame Ave. This includes parking for:
- Yard duty, Art-in-Action, Coffee with the Principal, Teacher Meetings, Daytime PA, Consultative or Athletic Board Meetings, Lunch Coordinators and Friday Mass.
- For short term business that coincides with AM drop off or PM pick up, park in the main lot and leave your car there until your business with the school is complete.
- The main lot will be locked down at 8:10 am and any cars left in the lot may get locked in.
- Certain teachers and members of the Administration are permitted to park in the front lot on a regular basis.
Parking for Kindergarten Families
- ABSOLUTELY NO PICK UP/DROP OFF/PARKING ON ARAGON BLVD.
- NO PARKING IN FRONT LOT FOR K AM DROP OFF or K PM PICK UP
- K a.m. drop off - parks in main school yard and walks child to class via the lunch tables crosswalk - to the covered crosswalk and down the ramp
- K a.m. pick up: parks for 15 minutes in front lot and accompanies child to car.
- K p.m. drop off : parks for 15 minutes in front lot and accompanies child to K gate until teacher lets students in.
- K p.m. pick up: parks in main school yard and walks to pick up child at K-gate. Walks with child back to car.
- Please hold small children's hands while walking across/thru parking areas
Other Tips and Tricks
- Morning Drop-off lines will open earlier at 7:40 a.m. to help alleviate peak pressure – please have children go to picnic tables to wait for the first bell at 7:50.
- MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENTS PLEASE try to come a little later for pick-up since Middle School dismissal is 5 minutes later than lower grades (this will help avoid bottlenecks). Also, if your child is not ready, you may be asked to vacate the pick-up area and utilize a parking space to avoid bottlenecks
- There is to be NO PARENT PARKING on Notre Dame Ave and the Church parking lot on Notre Dame Ave during 8:15 and 12:05 mass times. It is very important to save these spots for parishioners attending Mass (who no longer are able to park on the main lot). This is not a change from previous policy.
- CARPOOL if possible - Helps strengthen the St. Matt's Community, alleviates traffic, helps the environment, and saves $$ (especially at today's gas prices!!!)
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, be CHRISTIAN while driving - Be kind and respectful to adult volunteers and safety patrol children
