Kindergarten Community Service
At St. Matthew Catholic School, it is one of our learning expectations that students demonstrate a social consciousness and take the action necessary to aid those in need in our society.
Lessons in community awareness and service start in kindergarten. In one community service project, the kindergarteners earn money throughout Lent by doing chores or good deeds at home. Toward the end of Lent, the kindergarteners and their 5th grade buddies take a field trip to Safeway to use the money they collect to buy food for Father Ahlbach's Closet, a food bank for needy families of the parish.

Every year kindergarteners and their 5th grade buddies buy groceries for the needy with money that they earn doing chores during Lent.

Father Ahlbach's kind note of thanks
