Parenting and Spirituality
As primary educators, all parents are asked to spend time and effort in nurturing their own and their family's spirituality. All parents are strongly encouraged to attend formation classes, prayer groups or retreats offered by the parish, the Parent's Association, or the Archdiocese.

Character Building with PEARL
It's not easy raising children in today’s day and age. Society gives children mixed messages about the value of good character. Formation of character has always been a part of Catholic education. St. Matthew’s PEARL is a practical tool used to consciously teach and emphasize the goals we have for our students. It gives our community a common language for learning expectations.
This language can be very helpful to parents. Referring to PEARL at home will help families connect to the character building that is happening at school. Parents can reference PEARL to help define a trait their child may be having trouble with or it might be a checklist to remember to catch family members doing something good.
Children need consistency with expectations for skills like:
- respect
- honesty
- good sportsmanship
- personal best
- integrity
- communication
- being an active Christian to name a few...
We are working in partnership with our school to teach our children confidence and give them a "toolbox" full of good ethical values and strong character traits that they will use in their service to the world.
