Accelerated Reader Program
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a reading management software program which provides teachers with an effective way to monitor all forms of guided reading practice. AR is currently used in grades 1 through 4 at St. Matthew Catholic School.
- AR gets students excited about books. AR helps to focus attention on careful reading of books, which improves students' critical-thinking skills and builds an intrinsic love of reading.
- Teachers obtain reliable, objective information. The quizzes give teachers valuable data on students' literacy skills development.
- AR keeps each student challenged. Using AR, teachers guide students to appropriate books and curriculum.
Accelerated Reader's three steps continuously guide students to appropriate books. At the same time, it helps teachers personalize reading instruction and intervene with students who need extra help.
- Student Reads a Book. The student reads a library or textbook selection.
- Student Takes a Quiz. The quizzes provide assessment information to help motivate reading, monitor progress, and target instruction to accelerate reading growth.
- The Teacher Gets Information. The teacher gets reports on the reading level and comprehension skills of each student to guide instruction and helps the student select more reading materials.
